SecureWAN WiFi is an ‘out the box’ solution for companies that want to provide hotspot WiFi connectivity to their employees or customers.

As a fully managed service, Waveworks provide the industrial grade WiFi gateway, high-speed Internet connectivity, and intelligent software required to deliver secure public Internet access to multiple users. The solution is scalable from a single location up to large enterprise estates where centralised management is essential.

Internet Connectivity

SecureWAN WiFi is delivered with a business class 21CN ADSL2+ connection providing up to 8Mbps download and 1Mbps upload. The ADSL service is uncapped in terms of data usage and terminates on a managed WiFi gateway router. Additional radio points can also be installed if coverage from the WiFi gateway is not sufficient.

Secured WiFi

Initial access to the WiFi network can be provided to anyone, however end-users will be contained within a ‘walled garden’ area until they authenticate for access to the wider Internet. Companies can use this area to promote their services through a customisable webpage, or allow access to specific websites such as intranets.

Access to the wider Internet can be controlled in a number of ways, either via a username/password authentication or using voucher codes. Username/password authentication is controlled via a central user database thus allowing a single account to have access from any remote site using the SecureWAN WiFi service.

In scenarios where public or paid access it required, Waveworks can provide a pre-defined list of voucher codes which are programmed to allow users online for a specific amount of time. These can be presented on a spreadsheet or printed as individual voucher tickets depending on preference. The codes can be used at any site on the network as authentication is done centrally on the network.

For added security, all users that are logged onto SecureWAN WiFi will also be blocked from communicating with each other across the local WiFi network, this helps to prevent any malicious activity from taking place.

Content Filtered Access

All Internet access on the service will be filtered via a centralised content filter. The service itself dynamically scans all traffic blocking access to undesirable content using a number of methods including category based filters, blacklists and threshold scoring. In addition, users are protected against web-borne spyware, viruses and browser exploits all of which pose a significant threat to network security. All user activity is recorded and reports can be provided on a monthly basis showing utilisation and number of users per site etc.
