IPStream Migration

With the impending migration to BT’s 21st Century Network, IPStream in its current form will discontinue resulting in companies having to choose between making the significant investment to continue using the Wholesale service, or move to another product.

Managed 21CN IPStream is a fully managed end to end solution that allows companies to provide Next Generation Network connectivity to their remote sites and users via a secure DSL Wide Area Network. Based on the new BT 21st Century Network, Waveworks can seamlessly transition your existing Central Pipes and end user connections onto the new platform without the need to change remote site hardware ensuring minimal cost and disruption to the existing network infrastructure.

Moving to the new service is a three step process, project managed by Waveworks and BT to ensure a smooth transition. Existing IPStream customers will continue to benefit from a high speed, low cost, secure wide area network with the added incentive of a fully managed service wrap relieving your business of the time-consuming day-today management of the network and users.

Multi-Service Host Pipe

The 21CN IPS network is delivered using a multi-service Ethernet Host Pipe connection into the customers HQ or Data Centre. Unlike conventional IPStream, this host pipe utilises either a 10Mb or 100Mb ‘Flex’ bearer providing the ability to select a committed rate of bandwidth at any level on the scale rather than the traditional steps of 2Mb, 10Mb, and 34Mb. If resilience is required, a secondary host pipe can be provided in a load-balanced or hot-standby setup depending on the customer requirement. Customers can also benefit from the ‘multi-access’ nature of the host pipe which allows them to make use of the pipe for other services such as Internet access or integration with an existing BT MPLS network.

Remote Site Connectivity

For the remote sites, customers will benefit from an 8Mb MAX ADSL connection as standard with the options for MAX Premium and ADSL2+, where available. Both MAX services offer up to an 8Mbps downstream with the standard product delivering up to 440Kbps upstream and the Premium up to 832Kbps. As the rollout of BT’s 21st Century Network platform continues, remote sites will be able to use ADSL2+ connectivity offering up to 20Mbps download and 1Mb upload. 21CN IPStream also has the ability to seamlessly integrate with other services such as MPLS, Ethernet, Bonded DSL, and Internet Transit to ensure the right technology is available regardless of the business requirement.

Network Management

Waveworks will migrate existing RADIUS accounts onto a centralised RADIUS platform for user authentication and accounting. Management of DSL tails including new provisions, migrations, cancelations and ordering of PSTN lines will be performed by Waveworks’ Customer Services team.

The Waveworks Network Operations Centre will also continually monitor the network for bandwidth (subject to router model) utilisation, latency and availability. Real-time access to this information with customisable charts and graphs is provided for the end customer.

End-user Support

The customer will no longer need to deal with BT Wholesale directly as Waveworks will act as the Single Point of Contact for all network related issues. All elements of the solution will be polled every 5 minutes 24/7 and alert notifications will be trigged in the event a device is deemed unavailable. Alerts relating to core network services or Major Service Outages will be dealt with 24/7. Alerts relating to individual 21CN IPStream DSL connections will only be dealt with during PrimeCare support hours, 7 days a week.
